Yakima SunDome

The Yakima Valley SunDome is a 6,195 seat multi-purpose arena in Yakima, Washington, USA. It was built in 1990, on the Central Washington State Fairgrounds, by Gilbert H. Moen Co. (General Contractor) and Loofburrow & Associates (Architect). The SunDome was designed to host sporting events, i.e. basketball, soccer, volleyball, ice shows, horse shows, circuses, boxing and concerts, as well as agricultural expos, trade shows, symposiums, conventions, and much more.
The Yakima Valley SunDome constituted the second Dome in the world to use a concrete sectional roof design (24 segments), the first being Seattle's Kingdome.
Facts & Figures: 85,500 gross square feet, with 56,000 usable square feet; 270 feet in diameter; 90 feet interior height (floor to peak); 4 service doors - 20’x20’ and 12’x16’; 300 - 10’ x 10’ exhibit booths; 6 concession stands; Unlimited floor load capacity; Overhead grid system load capacity of 100,000 lbs., in summer, 80,000 lbs., in winter.

Monday, January 15, 1990 - "Hard Hat Salute" 5pm-8pm.
Tuesday, January 16, 1990 - Grand Opening No-Host Luncheon 11:30am.
Wednesday, January 17, 1990 - Kenny Rogers w/Special Guest Marie Osmond - 7pm.
Thursday, January 18, 1990 - B-52's Cosmic Tour - 7pm.
Friday, January 19, 1990 - Soviet Acrobatic Revue - 7pm.
Saturday, January 20, 1990 - Public Open House & Free Community Entertainment - 10am-6pm.
The SunDome hosts many annual events, including the (WIAA ) 1A and 2A High School Basketball State Tournaments, and the (WIAA ) Dance and Drill 2B, 1A, 2A & 3A State Championships.
The SunDome was the home of the Continental Basketball Association's Yakima Sun Kings from 1990 to 2008. The SunDome has occasionally hosted indoor American football, including the Yakima Shockwave of the National Indoor Football League in 2001 and the Yakima Valley Warriors of the American Indoor Football Association who played home games at the SunDome in 2010.
